Weekend Work

#1

Post by OutoftheWoodwork »

This weekend was mostly spent making things to assist with tasks in the shop; although, I did get a couple of things cut:
Snoopy on his doghouse was cut yesterday, and he got his coat of primer tonight. Also got a couple more gingerbread boys cut, although they still need to be sanded & a little bit of shaping, along with quite a few other things that still need their final sanding/shaping before paint/stain, etc.

Ken spent the weekend puttering around making better use of a old crate-style box that used to be in our room for CD's (or something like that. I forget.) and meandering around trying to maximize space. He decided to get rid of the sandpaper boxes, stacking them in this box, and cutting some dividers. He also did it for the 3" sandpaper rounds, but also created a box for them with some scrap 1/2" ply.

The main thing I got done that I've been wanting to make for some time, was the sanding pads. I found this on WoodworkWeb's YouTube channel, and thought it would be a great idea for my HookIt II sanding discs. (I got these years ago at a 3M "yard sale" and was never able to get pads for them, so they've sat in the cupboard.) I ended up making just the 3" disc pad for the HookIt and HookIt II and the other two are the regular 5" and 6" circular pads. I still need to do the 6" I think, but maybe next weekend

That is a good idea for holding discs for hand sanding, and to keep the new discs sorted.

An outfit that I bought some discs from online told me that if I was going to store them for very long to put them into zip lock bags. They do degrade over time and the bags help prolong their life span.

Funny you mentioned that...

In my assortment of discs, I had some 3" 1500 grit discs, and when I pulled them out of their box to put them with the rest of them, they literally fell apart. They had like a "cushion" between the backing and the sandpaper, and it was literally crumbled apart. It was gross. It was tacky/sticky. yuck. unfortunately, they ended up in the trash.
