The fence on the router table seems far back...I'm guessing you ran the piece left to right...? I've needed to do that from time to time...

Nick, the only way I could get the face profile like I wanted it, I was still cutting against the rotation of the bit.

How did you cut those long tapers???...
Your eye for book matching your panels is right on time....
what was your method to maintain your accuracy on the rest of compound joinery???

I used a taper sled jig to cut the long tapers.
The rebated rabbet was cut with a router bit,on the router table
I tried a lock miter and spent a lot of time setting up, but couldn't get it to come out perfect so went to the rabbet bit. I was able to book match the grains on 3 sides, but the 4th side had to to be what ever it was.
All the rest of the miters were cut on the table saw.
The architectural profiles were both cut on the router table with a couple of picture frame bits from the set of 4.
The finish is a coat of shellac and 2 coats of minwax clear polyurethane.

That looks fantastic Herb. Tapers add an elegance to pieces but I have not employed them to often.

Beautiful Herb. Straight joinery would be impressive enough but when you add the taper to the equation is much more difficult.

Some pedestals have feet like pedestal tables.They don't need to be tapered. Some are more like lecterns. If they have a small footprint they would need to be.
