Playtime

#1

Post by OutoftheWoodwork »

Yesterday I actually made it out to the shop for a couple hours and got some playtime in. I did a new version of a headphone stand (from Carmichael Workshop I think), a cat couple puzzle stand (for my daughter that I goofed on, and have to re-cut today), and the waves for the shark I did for Shawn for Christmas. Met our daughter in Shelby Twp. so Ken could go out there (for a rabbit hunt today) so since it was dark when I got back, I painted the waves for Shawn's shark.

I'm procrastinating going out to the shop to start the heater to get some more stuff cut today (a lot of small stuff - more stand up puzzles, etc.) and hopefully I'll get the cats cut again. I put wood conditioner on the headphone stand, so the color of it has changed a great deal. Super sharp. I'm hoping to wax it tonight.

Oh Yeah, Barb, Like them all. The Shark does take first, but the others are very nice too. I haven't figured out what the center one represents but it does have a heart. You are getting better every time.

Thanks, Herb. The center one is two cats with a heart between the heads. I messed it up, so I had to re-cut it. Got it re-cut, but I still have to etch the details for the eyes and tails.

As for the shark, I told Shawn to pick the position of it on the waves, and I just notched it out. He wanted it to look like it was going down into the water.

the solution is have him do it before he leaves or com back to the house to take care of it...

Thanks, Barb, now I see the cats. That is sure clever how you made the shark dive like that. The shark looks quite realistic too.
It looks like a lot of handwork after you cut them out. You didn't say what kind of wood you use.

Can't have him to it before he leaves; I only have 20 lb tanks. and he's not gonna come home to do it when he's almost 90 minutes away... he would have just laughed at me

You said my mind works in mysterious ways; I was wondering how you thought that - you guys are all construction/carpentry. I'm artsy/fartsy (relatively speaking)

The shark was made out of a 2x2 piece of pine, and I think the waves were done in cedar, I think? I had a 2x6 or 2x8 out there in "the pile"
