most of the rim joist and the bottoms of the siding was wet rotted...
braced the place up and did repairs... the original installer set the T1-11 hard onto the drip edge bending it up and backward allowing water to collect keeping the siding wet...
all of the windows were replaced, garage doors as well...

every little thing seem to come w/ a set problems and issues..
when these windows were pulled there were no headers the widows were doing their function... headers were built but because of space constraints the headers were built thick instead of tall and jacks put in as wide mullions which became a feature...

when the lower set of windows were removed the brick fell off the building - it wasn't affixed to the house... the old window flange held it in place...
cleaned all the brick and put it all back together, w/ ties... if I never do that again it will be to soon...

Where was the building inspector during the original build? The front and back are the bearing walls, how did the builder get away without putting in headers? And then not flash the windows properly? The windows don't appear to have sills which is part of the drainage away from the wall.

nope.. no sills.. caulk..
the header consisted of 2 top plates and the window becoming structural...
the tri-window had a single vertical 2x4 between them..

same builder as the yellow house... same development...
the inspector was convicted for accepting bribes and the builder paying them...
the builder and his crew beat feet and went back to Mexico w/ his crew...
there were dozens and dozens and dozens of these houses done by the same crew...

some stuff that was fixed on both houses..
actually 7 and then I wouldn't touch them any more... each house seemed to be worse than the one I just finished...
as they built along the came up w/ more and more cut corners methods...
3/8" 3 ply roof deck on top of 24OC 40# trusses, #6 nails and no strapping or clips... (put in knee walls to raise the rating)...
no I&WS, felt or starter strips...
under sized drip edge if there was any...
illegal inter lock shingles...
2" of CC w/o wire on top of uncompacted base in the live in finished basements... when the trash fill settled..........
paneling spot glued to the foundation's walls...
interior framing at either 32 or 48" centers...
24OC exterior walls...
no jacks or trimmers, kings only and some cripples..
single flat 2x4 headers if there were any, load bearing or not...
undersized and spliced together for length joists...
really short nails'pins...
zero flashing..
two piece mobile home prehung interior doors...
ultra cheap mobile home windows..
ultra cheap mobile home cabinets, bathrooms, fixtures and hardware.....
Quest plumbing...
aluminum wiring w/ CU rated devices... not AL/CU... wire splices w/o boxes..
shag carpet (w/o) tack strip.. come on.. that shid went out of date a life time ago...
and on and on and on and on...

the AC widow unit was inadequate and very noisy...
the solution was to hang a multi-speed swamp cooler on the north gable and run a heavily insulated trunk line the length of the house in the attic w/ distribution legs to each room...
it has held the home temperature at 70° on the hottest of days....

People found out that shag wore out quickly and was hard to get clean. I'm surprised anyone bought those houses. You don't have to know a lot to be able to get a bad feeling in a place like that. In fact, just close a door and you can tell something sounds wrong.

I can't see what is holding up the ends of the header.

the redwood horizontal piece you see is more of a valence/facade/final...
there's three sistered 2x8's under that sitting on the trimmers....
