To Comemorate Daylight Savings Time

Since today is DST I thought it fitting to show some of the simple clocks I made.
It shows the toothpick hinges and toothpick latch.

Here is one I was showing at our woodworker meeting. It was a clock insert in a knot bump off a cedar log. And Ruff edge off a walnut plank.

They were sealed with spray shellac and finished with the Target Clear water base urethane.

I would have been really tempted to band saw out the heart shape on the cedar one. Good pictures by the way.

There is a lot of ways that would have looked good for that piece. But I liked the outside grain as well as the heart grain. It was a very unusual cut, even the "Arm" sticking down is interesting.

I like those, Dan, Really unique the desktop one with the drawers is a good way to use the space under the movement. I don't think I would ever try the Grandfather clock, that one came out beautiful. The pool table top designs is one I would never have even thought of,cool.

Nice job Herb! Beautiful work! I have a piece of wood that has the face done, but no guts (got it out of a motor home years ago that a woodworker owned. The motor home was useless, but I found some serious treasures in it.) The edges are bumpy and rough almost looks like a growth on the outside. One of these years I plan on getting a clock motor to put in it, as well as a couple other ones I got at the same time.

Barb they are really easy to make the rustic clocks too. I call them "Drift Wood" clocks, in the past because I started to make them out of driftwood I found on the beach. It is easy to flatten 2 side with the band saw and use a portable belt sander to smooth them down. Then to cut the hole I use the drill press with a hole saw or large Forstner bit, but you are good with the scroll saw, so could drill a small hole and cut out the hole.
I buy the movements from Klock-It. Their movements are relatively cheap,(the pop in) ones, the movement + face+ hands are usually a little more.

I made a couple out of the Holly boards. I was going to make desktop clocks, but I couldn't come up with a stand I liked so made them into wall clocks.

I have plans for wooden gear clocks if anybody wants them...
