just another thought
I would add that non-working family or friends (not just possible distractors) be kept out of the working area unless they are appropriately trained and dressed in PPE, etc. If they ARE working/helping with your project (especially around power tools which may be running or possibly turned on), you will be the primary safety person on premises and basically responsible for EVERYONE'S safety.

Excellent point...

Re: just another thought
Sandra and i were just talking about that very same subject. For me, I enjoy working alone, I seem to get more done when I have not other distractions. BUT, I would enjoy having some one to show how to do different things in the shop and to maybe pass on some tips or experiences. I have 19 grands and soon to be 3 Great Grands. The nearest are over 6 hours away. All 6 of our combined children are spread out across the US, and even as kids, they really didn't show much interest in wood working. I myself didn't get into it until after I retired from 22 years in the infantry, and by that time, the kids were growing up.
So, my outlet and my chance to share is here on this forum with all my friends, each and every one of them with the same interest as I.
It doesn't get much better then this.

Re: just another thought
I think I got off subject a bit there.
Since I am alone in the shop, and wearing a mask, goggles and eye protectors, when my Sandra comes to visit or to get me to come eat, and I have a machine running, she will stand outside the over head doors and wait for me to shut it down.
She has learned it is easy to sneak up on a guy wearing all that PPE, and dangerous for the both of us.
I have considered installing an out side light switch she could blink to get my attention.

Love that. It could apply to my shop, since I have copper plating equipment, wood bleach and so on.
