I made this table and mirror surround from white oak. Its for a bedroom so had to be quite narrow to fit.
The shellac finish made these pieces much browner than usual, almost looks like red oak.

Re: oak side table
Thanks. I should have taken a better picture before it was put in place. Theres not enough room for a full on pic.
I'm enjoying making furniture in oak, its not as difficult as i thought it would be.
Not happy about the colour though, this is much "browner" than the other oak bedroom furniture i have made. I bought new shellac flakes advertised as golden, but it looks more like garnet.

Maybe try super blonde. I've heard the best shellac comes from a German company.sunnybob wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 11:11 pm Thanks. I should have taken a better picture before it was put in place. Theres not enough room for a full on pic.

Re: oak side table
Real fine, Bob,shellac does give everything a mellow tan color. When I make things I want to stay close to the original color, I use a clear urethane. sometimes it looks like no finish at all, except for the shine. It can be had in Matte, satin gloss and high gloss.
