Experts opinions, please.

Hi guys.
In November 2015 I bought these two bits for router bowls. I inspected them taking in mind a new woodworking project.
One of them lost a piece of tungsten carbide may be due to the bad storage conditions.
I took the bit to a sharpening center to ask for a repair although the bits have not been used.
The attendant told me that there is no problem to use the bit as it is. I would like to hear opinions from the experts.

I use them with nicks in the edges. Besides leaving a small ridge you have to deal with it's usually not an issue. A chunk missing is a different situation. Besides the out of balance that Stick mentioned, the overall integrity of the the piece of carbide may be compromised. Pieces of what is left could start flying off it. I've had damage like you describe happen by not having the bits properly protecting in shipping. If they are allowed to bang against each other you can lose large pieces off them.

balance will become an issue...
it will vibrate...
the vibration will damage the router's bearings and lead to the second cutter separating from the bit's body..
the bit will also chatter giving giving you a a crappy cut and it will cause the cutter to fracture....

the bit is now junk and what is to keep the last cutter from flying off and becoming shrapnel??? replace it..

I had my suspects about the bit balance but I was surprised by the technician*s reply saying "There are no problems to use it"
The bits are in their original package. I don*t know the reason for this.

If you decide to try it then use it on a board and on the side opposite you and with no one else in the area. That way if it throws off pieces they won't be able to hit you.

Because of your location and the timing a complaint to Rockler probably won't yield positive results. I would however send them a photo and a description. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Alex I would surely send Rockler a notice and a copy of the receipt or the store where you bought it, they keep records of sale on their computer. Ask for a replacement or a refund. What ever you do, do not use it.
