That time of year getting nearer
Was up in northern Minnesota to visit BeltraMIDave and brought back some 2" thick Ash slabs.

Nice work John. Did you stain them? I made a tote and knob out of ash to replace the ones on a plane I bought. The originals would have been beech which is one of the most figureless woods there is, much like local birch. The ash does have nice grain and once varnished looked quite nice.

It's just semi gloss poly on the naqtural wood. Painted the bark with a couple coats of thinned tite bond before finishing to keep the bark on.Cherryville Chuck wrote: ↑Wed Sep 13, 2023 4:00 pm Nice work John. Did you stain them? Here's a picture of a replacement tote and knob I made for an old Stanley transitional plane out of ash, or at least what I was told was ash. Three coats of gloss Minwax Helmsman spar varnish for a finish. it's mush lighter in color than your ash John.

The MinWax poly I used has an amber tint to it. Might have been lighter if it was clear.

C'mon Barbie .......... you know you want to buy the Probotix I'm thinking of getting rid of. It's here waiting for you. After all, it's the same machine that made your shop sign. Kiss Kiss
