Here is well thought out compound joint that looks pretty easy to do...

I'd be happy if I could saw that accurately. Some of their joinery is pretty complex, requiring sawing and chiseling.

I saw a reference years ago that went through joints like that and it said where and and under what circumstances they would get used.
