McFeely's has quite a selection and Lee Valley sells 500 #7x1 for $21.40 which doesn't sound too bad. Should be coarse thread for ply or softwood.

I have always used regular wood screws. The length depends on the thickness of the wood I was joining. Seems to work just fine.
I buy them in bulk from a local hardware store. Use them for everything.

Be aware that pocket hole screws are designed with a reduced diameter shank to match the diameter of the point on the Kreg drill bit. Look at an enlarged photo of this screw Pocket Screw and compare with one of the Kreg - the genuine article shows a definite reduction of the body to that of the root of the threads whereas the Quickscrews version is not as well defined. While Quickscrews does sell screws that are equivalent, it pays to check before purchasing. If the screws don't have the correct shank size, this can result in splitting of your part in soft wood or perhaps breaking of the screw in hard wood.

If you don't have a 6" long driver bit to install them with then order one with the screws. It makes driving them on that angle much easier.
