I have a couple of those to let go too. I would trade for most anything useful. Like a bucket of bent nails. ( I could straighten them out).
Sandra and I recently made a trip from Texas to North Carolina to pick up a car. Our 15 year old ask us to pick her up some Whataburger's for her
since they don't have Whataburger hamburger stands out there . I waited until we were almost out of Texas and stopped at the last stand I could find on the highway to be sure they were as fresh as possible when she got them. I bought 4 and we placed them in the frig of the Motor Home and carried them to her.
When I presented them to her, she took one look and said "I thought they were bigger".
My son pointed out to her that since she left Texas at age 8, that she was smaller.
As far as I know, she ate them all and not a word of thanks.
Next time, she will get a bucket of bent nails.
( by the way, Whataburger's are a hamburger joint located primarily in Texas)

Seems to me my brother took me to a Whataburger in Birmingham. As I recall they were pretty good. Unfortunately I have no use for more teenagers. Mine gladly grew up and eventually became responsible for themselves.

A scary thought just came to mind...most, if not all, of our parents it seems were cut from the same cloth.

Can you imagine what it would have been like if they had tools like forums, email, video conferencing, etc...we would never have made it out of our teens...LMAO...

One of my grand sons is 14. and he is doing his school work on line. and is failing.
I had a talk with him just the other day. I ask him what was going on, before all of this happened, he was an A student, and now they give you test and such on line as you sit miles away in your room, with your lap top open on the desk.
This should be the easiest school days,
They have no imagination. If I had the electronics they have when I was a kid, and had to take a test from home on the computer, I would have two computers and the second one with Cortana on a listening mode. even your cell phone would work with a ear bud. That way when the teacher ask a question, she would answer it, then you write that answer down. Ban an "A".
Of course once you go back to the brick and mortar school, you would be getting Ds and Cs again.

Of course Sandra would not allow me to tell him that.

I really feel his pain, I would be the same. I always had a tough time reading a book and taking a test. If I sat in the classroom and had a teacher telling me about the subject and then give a test, I could do well on the test. I think it had to do with the teacher asking students and hearing answers and corrections also discussion of the topic,is when I learned.
My older brother could read a whole book in a matter of minutes , and retain everything in it, he never did homework, and he went on to graduate in Chemical Engr. and Business Admin.
But he didn't fit in with normal people and had zero common sense.

My wife has ask many times " can you imagine where we would be if we had the opportunities and the tools that our grand kids have today."
I can picture our grand kids saying that very same thing to their kids and grand kids one day.
I am happy where we are.
I have often said that " We are where we are though choices that we made".
Just think about that for a moment. Even the smallest decision made long ago, led to where we are in life today.
Good or bad.

You are absolutely right, David. When I got out of 3 yrs.college, I was a B+ student,21 yo and wasn't interested in anything except fishing and duck hunting. I was working at Boeing as a jig builder helper (we did the work the journeyman laid out). I decided to go into the Army and get the required service commitment over,that was hanging over the head of all the 18yo males of that time. That was the best thing I ever did, when I got out in 3 years I was ready to take on the world. It got me started in life.

Back when we were kids the average house maybe had a circ saw and a power drill. Hand saws were still common as were shops that could sharpen them and many carpenters did their own. There wasn't even any such thing as a multi driver yet. Even professional shops probably didn't have the variety of tools we have in our home shops.

When I was 13yo. I could jack up the tractor, tear it down have the clutch laying on the work bench ready for my Dad to take to work the next day and bring a replacement home for me to reinstall and have the field half plowed by the time he got home from work the next night. We didn't have time for social networking when I was a teen.

We have Whataburger stands around here. I've tried them. I guess, if you like small greasy hamburgers, you will like them. I've tried them a few times and they aren't for me. Since I moved here 40 years ago, several Whataburger locations have closed and are gone. Even the distribution office/warehouse that had the big plastic steer standing on it's roof is now gone, as well as the building. Since each Whataburger had the stand number in it's sign, and all were very low numbers, I always thought that they were a local chain. Maybe not. Whataburger #1, on Hwy 29 just South of Concord, NC, plus a gas station, and a barber shop all became the property for the Concord Super K Mart, which is now closed and empty too.
