one off the bucket list
Just before the other forum went to hell on a handcart I fulfilled a long held ambition and made a knife.
But me being me, it wasnt just a knife.
With apologies to crocodile dundee, I made a "Thats Not A knife" (known hence forward as TNAK).
The blade is one piece 86 / 70 steel. But then, after a while I got fed up moving it around because its way too big to be practical with its 13" blade and 2 1/2 lb weight so I made a presentation box for it.
I had a very rare plank of rippled beech which I used for the top, with bubinga and maple edges using bird mouth joints
The inside is padded with plastic foam floor squares, flocked in blue. Now I can store it safely.

At 2 1/2 lbs that is massive. I really like the finger guard and the wood you used for the scales.

The guard is solid brass, hollowed out and slipped over the handle. I actually used my router table and a normal straight sided cutter to finish the inside straight edges.
The wood on the handle... is .... wait for it.... Thermally Modified Rippled Sycamore.
Held on with 2 solid brass pins and one mosaic pin (blame Forged In Fire)

That is one bad-sass knife, brings back memories of the pirate era, and it even has a coffin shaped box, LOL, how quaint is that? You did a superb job on both.
I like all the woods you used too.

That's one hell of a piece of art !!!
I can explain it to you but I can't UNDERSTAND it for you!
Wait a moment, let me overthink it.!
Of course I talk to myself, -- sometimes I need expert advice.
