I've heard of those being used by kids or very small adults to get inside and then unlock the doors without having to break in. I've also heard of skunks, neighbors cats, someone else's dog, snakes, and other undesirable animals taking advantage of those. My personal opinion is they are a bad idea.

I have one and we have never had an undesirable intruder out here in the desert. Small dog, small door. I think a big door for a large dog would be a different issue. It sure beats having to open the door 4-6 times a day.

Wish I could put one of them in... Actually looked into it, then thought better of it. Teddy (our Pomeranian) would hear a bird fart, and be out the door in a flash, to bark his fool head off, driving everyone mad in the neighborhood.

We got a black pom once with the intention he would be an outside dog. We shared a property with my in laws and their house is about 50 yards away. We got a call around 11:00 the first night with orders to bring that damn dog in now. It's part of the breed. We had 2 others that were the typical colors and they were just as bad.

The neighbors next to us where I lived before, had 2 little Yorky's and I swear those dogs lived to bark. When there was nothing to bark about they would bark at each other. The neighbors were responsible though, they kept them inside at night. But even with the doors and windows closed in their house you could hear them constantly barking.

4-6 Times?!?! You're LUCKY! That's a rainy day here, when the dogs don't wanna get wet! LOL
