Had to try out my new Kreg 520 Gizmo and ..........

had to see how it worked. Biggest complaint - it didn't come with a benchclamp. A C-clamp won't work. Found one on Ebay. Trigger system worked pretty good.

Cut some 2 1/2" maple strips and played around a little
IMG_6656.jpg
These look like it could be made into something.
IMG_6657.jpg
Used some birch ply and made some sides
IMG_6663 (3).jpg
Good side doesn't look too shabby.
IMG_6671.jpg
I cheated and used more birch ply for a front, back, and bottom. Figured it was ok since this was just a test.
IMG_6678.jpg
Figured a little support and trim was in order. more maple
IMG_6679 (2).jpg
Front needed a little dressing up too

Figured I'd try a little flat joinery
IMG_6681.jpg
Hope I didn't get carried away
IMG_6684.jpg
Looks like it did it's job
IMG_6685.jpg
Look at that. It fits!! That measure once and cut twice thing really works.

Made a lid from glued up maple boards
IMG_6700.jpg
Added a piano hinge, lid supports, a name (You know I had to get the CNC in there someway), 4 rattle cans of Rustoleum 2x paint, and I think the grandson has a new addition.

I would say the Kreg pocket gizmo works. Might have been a little overkill with all the joints being screwed and glued, but I didn't want it falling apart on him. Don't think I could sell these for much of a profit. Was really surprised at what I have in it just for materials. But it was fun and the daughter seemed pleased with it.

That turned out pretty well. I like that dark finish. Pocket screws are really a pleasure to use and much stronger than you think they'd be. Did you also glue the joints as well?

Glued and screwed. It's heavy and solid.
