Chinese Ink Line Tools

#1

Post by Herb Stoops »

What today is the chalk box, was in china an Ink Line Tool.
They used ink instead of chalk, and were ornamental in design. Here are a couple, a horse and a Dragon head. The Horse was also a marking gauge, with a quill for marking a line using the base as a guide similar to todays marking gauges. The quill could be used in both sides. They could also be used as a plumb Bob.

Very interesting...! The more things change, the more they remain the same...

When I first started the old guys used a half moon chunk of chalk held in their hand and drew a heavy cord over it to snap lines. Mostly the cement masons did that.
