I was thinking that too with the awls to punch holes along the edges of the pelt to stretch them. I did a search, but didn't find a match.

How about a veneering tool? Board prep with the toothed side, veneer hammer on the straight side. The teeth would be rough on the hands, if used two-handed - I suppose one could use a pad.
