Has anyone taken the springs out of the plunge base of a Bosch 1617?

It LOOKS like a simple c clip holds in one spring/post. I can't see if anything is holding in the other post.

Smitty, I mounted my 1617 in a MCLS Sliding table with the plunge base on it. Then drilled a hole in the top to adjust from the table top side. You still have to reach under and clamp and unclamp the router base when making adjustments.
It worked OK, but I got the idea that I might like a power adjustment from the top side. So I rigged up one of those tiny little compact slow speed drill/driver motors I used to install drawer slides.

Then cut off a hex wrench and chucked it up in the drill motor where I could use it from the top and crank her up and down with power. Yeah man, really getting high tech here!
So when I tried it out, it worked great,up/dwn, up/dwn, etc. Then the driver stuck on the down cycle ,and guess what?
You are right, the spring clip came off the end of the spindle and ker-plunk the router motor landed in the bottom shelf.
So much for that brilliant idea. I had to buy a new spring clip and put that idea in the "Dumb file" and went back to hand adjustment.
Eventually I was able to come by a Rockler lift and installed that in the table, which I like a lot better. No lock/unlock, just adjust and go and even adjust on the fly while the power is on, which is extremely handy.

I have also used the 1617 fixed base under a router table and it works fine . Still has to be locked/unlocked from the underside. The weight of the router is adequate to let the motor slide down. It is made for the hex wrench on the bottom face of base, for top side adjustment.

Herb I just eyeballed the new base versus the old base (I have 2 1617's).
The only difference that I could see was the old black sub-base did not have an access hole drilled in it for the hex key. So you know I immediately remedied that.

Was the end of the post set up for hex drive? All my newer fixed bases are and are drilled for the key?

Yes---it appears that Bosch planned in advance.

I did something similar with my Hitachi M12V2. When I took the plastic off the base I found a metric nut on the end of the threaded height adjust rod. With the corresponding socket on a mechanic's speeder wrench I can run it up and down almost as fast as you could with that drill Herb. Plus with the speeder wrench you can gauge how much you are turning it if you need a fine adjustment. Just put a hex key socket on it for a Bosch.
