Barb's Mess

Well, here's the shop as it is today; a hot mess
Ken set up the planer next to the window for me today; when I say he set it up, he hooked up the hose. We had set up the window, the collector (outside) and moved the machine next to the window a few weeks ago. Today when he got home from our daughters, he hooked up the hose, and made it long enough to be able to pull it out towards the middle of the shop.
I really need to do some shopkeeping. I'll just do it little at a time, I guess.

Shop looks good,Didn't you have a scroll saw? The bandsaw looks like one I have, the only thing,(minor) I can't get used to is that bright light on the back side of the blade shining towards me. So how do you like the DC outside the shop?

That's practically spotless compared to mine right now. It looks well laid out.

Still do, Herb. It's at the back of the sanding table in the middle of the shop. The band saw? I'm not a real fan of it. Not only that light, but looks like it came to us screwed up; the top wheel and bottom wheel aren't lined up right. The blade won't line up on the wheel like it should. Stick spent two hours on the phone with me last weekend to try and get the blade back on it, to go through all the proper steps ,only to end up with the blade "close" to being properly lined up. He eventually came to the conclusion that it looks like it was made/sent wrong.

Mylarger band saw is a Ridgid, and the small 12" is a Wen. The Wen is the one with the light behind the blade and those LED lights are so bright that they are hard to work with them shining into your eyes. Otherwise the saw works OK. I took off the factory BB guides and made it so I could use the solid cool blocks for guides. The ball bearings fell out of the guide bearings after I used it for a short time.
Isn't it nice to have a shop you can leave and when you come back everything is right where you were working on it ?
After I finish every project, I put all the tools back where they belong before I start a new one, and tidy up the shop. Then do it all over again.

Quick question on the bandsaw...do you have the 3962 Model and does the blade tracking knob have an effect on blade tracking at all...?

Yes, and I see Herb has the same one. Second question: Yes. But it will only bring the blade as far as just barely inside the edge of the wheel, not to the center. I can just barely feel the tips of the teeth when I run my finger on the front of the wheel. When I was putting the blade back on, I set the blade on the center of both wheels, do the rotation of the wheel, and the blade walks to the edge of the bottom wheel, where the teeth are just even with the edge (and only on the bottom wheel.) On the top wheel, the blade sits perfect. Frustrating to say the least. Stick was great, walking me through this nightmare, and talking me through it. I only wish we could have video called, so he could see it as it was happening.

We'd never get along lol You're too neat and orderly LOL Of course, I get mad at Ken for just throwing things around, like yesterday; he needed the air hose to blow out the bug zappers. He came over to my desk, took the air hose off the hook on the side of my desk, walked outside, blew off the bug zappers, to come back to the door, and toss the nozzle just inside the door.... I wanted to scream "NOW THAT'S NOT WHERE YOU FOUND THE M FIN' AIR HOSE, IS IT!" But I not-so-calmly walked over to the door when I needed it to blow off my sign, picked it up off the floor, and took it back to where it came from.
I usually try and get the place in some sort of semblance of order before I turn off the lights as I walk out, but to put things where they are stored? HA! That's funny! Yeah - no. Not happening.

If I don't put the tools in their home, I can't find them next time around. But there are still piles of lumber and stuff stacked around awaiting a designated spot. My air hose is on a retractable reel and I have 4 plex outlets on the ceiling every 8' ,4' apart so that I can make a drop anywhere in the shop without using cords. Also the walls have 4 plex outlets every 8' apart and a 220 outlet at 8' intervals in between so I can move machines around and not have to pull cords. I see you have a long power strip on truss cord in the center of the shop. That is a good idea. My work bench has a 4 outlet strip mounted both sides , for working power tools on the bench.

You'll notice I have a retractable up on the wall... I hate it. One: it leaks. Two: It Leaks Three: It's a pain to get it to stay still, it's on the wrong side of the shop and it can't be moved because that's the only place I have for the air compressor.

The lower wheel is adjusted with the 4 bolts on the outside...the upper and lower bolt tilts the wheel in and out while the two horizontal bolts tilt the wheel left and right (as you look at it from the open door side). The adjustment is very critical and I hesitate explaining it to you but it takes whatever you do to the upper bolt, you do the opposite with the lower bolt (we're talking 1/8 of a turn on the bolts makes a difference). If you call WEN they might walk you through it or they might tell you it's a factory adjustment. Not doing the adjustment properly will leave you in worse shape than you're in now. If we were closer I would do it for you...(my Rikon needed same adjustment when I got it). I suggest giving WEN a call...

I didn't know that, thanks, Nick. Mine tracks ok for the wider blades, just the narrow blades want to come off.

@OutoftheWoodwork
If you and Ken want to take a shot at adjusting the lower wheel, I've attached a PDF with pictures...

You're quite the comedian! LOL Ken's done with it, and refuses to touch the adjustments, and told me last night "that blade comes off, and you're on your own!" I laughed at him and said "who do you think got it on this time!?" (Well, with the help of Stick, but still.... AND I used the adjustment on the back, thank you very much! Well, now that I did that part....)
I'll look at it and PM you my cell... We'll video chat and you can walk me through it lol
*looked at it*.... ummm yeah. I would attempt it, but only under the direction of someone experienced guiding me through it.
