Barn Doors for Shop...

#1

Post by Nickp »

A long, long time ago in a land far, far away @Stick486 Stick proposed sliding doors in front of shelves to provide more wall space.

So I ordered some barn door hardware, picked up 14 2x4's (6 for the verticals and 8 for the horizontals), 3 4x8 pegboard sheets and off I went. The verticals and horizontals were screwed in on their face with a screw every 6 inches (holes). I screwed in a 2x4 on the bottom so that it could ride against the verticals of the shelves...this keeps the doors away from the shelves after they've been weighed down with hanging tools. After some careful measuring the doors hang nice and even. I'm going to put handles on the doors and maybe frame them so they join perfectly when slid together. I hung some tools just for the hell of it to see how the doors hang...it works...

I had fun...
