Something to get my teeth into

I had a most unusual commission last month from a friends sister. She had a family curio memento she wanted wall mounted. When it arrived I was a bit at a loss mas to what to do with it as I had never seen one of these before.
I did my usual and completely forgot to take before and during pictures, sorry, but it was a Saw fish rostrum. Thats the serrated toothed nose of the fish. Note... SAWFISH, not a Swordfish.
Its quite small as they go, just under 2 ft long.
So The only thing I came up with was a glass fronted trophy case. I just happened to have some highly figured Bubinga, so here it is. 2ft x 10" x 3"

That came out good, Bob, the dark wood created a great contrast to the white artifact.

Hey Bob, great stuff.
Perhaps you should offer to do the same for that narwhal tusk the ex-con used to tackle the terrorist in London? that surely deserves a suitable display case.

I had never seen or even heard of a sawfish before this. I had to look it up to make sure it was real.
They are so rare they are on the critically endangered list, total numbers in the low hundreds.
This is off a baby fish, on a full grown fish it can be 6 ft long and allegedly can cut a large fish in two with a single sideways slice.
After reading up on it I had to tell her that its now a crime to transport this across international borders, and illegal to even sell it unless you have a paper trail of ownership right back to 1949! Of course she hasnt, its just been around the family for 40 odd years so I warned her not to brag about owning it.
My crappy picture doesnt do the frame justice, its a really nice piece of bubinga.
