Barbeque Bar for sundeck

A freind of mine wanted to give her son a portable bar for the sundeck. During the summer he did a lot of cooking outside.
So I made one out of cedar, that was light enough for him to move under shelter when he wasn't using it.

I like it Herb. Did you put a finish on it? I did a swing with the same cedar and just let it turn gray. It is always under roof and has lasted at least a dozen years with no decay.

Dan,I have done them with a redwood stain and then they are easy to freshen up when they fade. But since I did the hard part on this one, he could put the finish onto it. He painted it black.

Stick, it was 3' W X 42" H X 8" D, Top 42" L X 12" W . I used rough sawn cedar fencing and ran it thru the planer.

He painted it black? You should have tested the joinery by lifting it up and smacking him on the head with it El Kabong style. The best thing I've found to treat cedar with is an oil finish. It can be teak oil with some varnish in it for a little shine. The oil protects it the best since cedar is really porous and sucks it in deep plus it rally makes the grain and color stand out. Varnish has never seemed to last as long on cedar, maybe because it is naturally oily wood. Oil slows the graying process down but won't stop it.

I didn't see it ,that is what I was told. Better than PINK, or rainbow, My wife would have painted it White, everything was white to her.

I think it is fundamental, for forensic purposes, to have only one picture of the item painted black. Having no pic, gives reasonable doubt. More pics, make for a bad stomach all day long, but one pic as evidence, to project the principle that hand made solid wood can be masqueraded to look like plastic, yes this is something I need to see.
And may long live this forum, to see after some years the fellow who will be asking questions on how to strip it without loosening the glue ...

PS I didn't see this whole lot in time, and wrote my comments in NWWA - what is the relation between NWWA and WoW?

Dimitri,No connection to WOW,other than me. NWWA is the local woodworking group I have belonged to since 2005. They, Since the pandemic they have not had any meetings, and decided to start a woodworking forum. All of the members except for me and you are not on this forum, WOW, but it is open to the public for anyone to join.
