Disability compensation

#1

Post by Bushwhacker »

I have been following "SITREP" for several weeks now waiting for them to get to a subject that is of utmost interest to me.
I wrote them to ask this question several times over the years with no response.
They began this new subject by listing the benefits received or expected for a vet with 100 % disability.
then each following week or so they talked about the benefits of 90%, 80% and down the list.
I am retried Army and due to spending my whole military life in the Infantry, I applied and received 10 % disability for my hearing loss.
I receive this from the VA BUT: since I am retired and receive a retirement check, the 10 % is taken out of my retirement pay and resent to me through the VA, Tax Free. Since i am nearly 80 my whole retirement is tax free. so they are giving me my
money back and calling it a benefit.
If I had not retired and then applied and received my 10% disability, I would have received this 10% from the VA anyway. Just as many veterans do who did not stay in to retire, but still had service-connected hearing loss.
Anyway, they finally got down to the benefits for 10% disability.
But when i attempted to add a comment, they closed the comments section.
What the hell is that about?

My understanding is that once I get to 40 percent or above the compensation will come from the VA and not from my retirement check. but since I don't (to my knowledge) have anything else wrong with me, I stay at 10 percent.
Again, my question is, "if I did not have a retirement check, where would the 10 percent come from?"
This year they gave a boost in retirement pay and disability pay, and again, it comes out of my retirement pay.

My Uncle was a WWII B-17 aircraft mechanic that was med discharged. He would go into these screaming ,yelling ,throwing things rants, ending with him sitting bawling like a baby for little reason. He was heavily medicated, and in and out of the VA hospital. They would give him electric shock treatments, that made him act strange. While holding a conversation he would do this crazy dance, like jump up and peddle a bike. Finally he died and got a free burial.
