Remember the discussion, at The Other Place, about making DIY knobs? Did anyone save that to their computer?
Pretty sure it was one of the 'Regulars' that posted his process for making multiples. (Memo to self: save this stuff!)

I think it was Mike's that I remembered, looks very familiar. Thanks, Stick!
I already picked up a bag of 40 -1/4"x 20 flanged SS inserts...i think it was about $15Cdn.
Not that i need 40 but when you need an insert for something, guaranteed it'll be late at night on a weekend or holiday, right?
And you know, I've got so much available space to store extra stuff...

Well i think I've figured out where i need to make changes. After looking at Mike's and comparing my first attempt earlier...i was on the right track...I need to modify the way i made my finger cutouts. Larger diameter Forstner bit and move my centrepoint way back from the circumference.

You mean 8 knurls? For 1 1/2" knob what size Forstner do you use, or do you scroll saw them ?
i was thinking of making a large pattern...maybe 8" or 10" and then scanning and reducing it to the actual size i want. That should give me nice smooth lines.

For a 1 1/2" knob I use a 1/4' bit,a 3/16 would work too. The way you do it is fine too.

I think "dimples" would be depressions on the flat face; knurls are on the circumference. OK; I'll shut up now... ;)

Do you mean "Dimples" around the circumference? Never thought of that, HMMMMM>>>> why not 1/2" at 45° and 3/4" at 90°. Maybe you got something there,

I did a dearch, didn't find any with dimple around the perimeter, just notches, like Dans'. Most had 8 like I have always done, some 4 like Dans, I did see one with 5 notches.

I thought the discussion was about shop made wooden knobs. Everybody knows about plastic molded knobs. I did a search about WOODEN knobs and didn't find any with dimples on them, although it is a good idea and worth pursuing.

It was MT Stringer who posted it. He used a larger Forstner than that which made smaller lobes with larger gullets. I think his were only 4 lobed. If you make 8 lobed then that would be about the right size bit.
