Framing Square enthusiasts out there...?

I love my framing square...and I love using the stair gages, that is, until this improvement to the usual mouse trap...(EDIT)been using this for years, maybe longer.

Basically, the square is sandwiched by two identical pieces of wood, squeezed tight by screws. The two pieces replaces the stair gages... Set it and forget it...

Ideal for flipping it over and doing the plum cuts at the top and bottom. The beauty is that you don't run out of wood like you can with stair gages at the top and bottom of the stringers.

Right now it happens to be set for 7x10...

My only suggestion would be to have some sort of way to lock it in so there is no way to bump it out of adjustment.

There is...the three screws keep it in place. Originally I had put the stair gages on the inside to keep it but they got in the way...

The screws do a good enough job...occasionally I'll put in the 4th for extra measure but I usually leave it out...makes it easier to readjust for different riser by loosening the middle screw...

As we have spoken about privately, you are familiar with squares both common and arcane in both their use and history.

As I am expert in the use of, for example, a guitar, that makes me a guitarIST.

For you, being a liklely expert in the use of a square (which can be used for many things most people are unaware of), I coined the non-pejorative term “squareist”. It was a term of respect.

Moreover, I brought Stick’s name up in the thread as a means of drawing him into the discussion and possibly adding something to it.

All of this was done at lightning speed while trying to multitask. It apparently didn’t go well.
