Easy way to make tapered legs

There are a number of ways to make tapered legs. I have found this one fool-proof, quick and easy. It was written about by a friend of mine. I've used it a number of times. Once I got a job to make a replacement leg for a guy that lost one in a move. He brought be one of the remaining ones to use as a pattern. When he came to pick up the new one, he couldn't tell which was the new one and which was his original. I have some legs to taper on the current project and I'll be using it again.

Using the planer leaves less finishing work too. It might be worth pointing out that the untapered portion has to go through the planer first, as pictured, so that the planer knives are going "downhill" on the grain.
