I've seen numerous times where someone asked which way to loosen the nut that holds a saw onto the arbor. There is a simple rule. It's always in the same direction as rotation. It has to be this way because if it was the other way the nut would never stay tight. The direction it has to tighten is the same direction that a slipping saw blade would tend to turn it.

Good point. I had never thought it through.

Now, can you explain why the arbor nut is a non standard size, or at least it is on my JET TS-10.

If it's a Left Hand thread, where would you find one ? Not only that but isn't it an ACME thread anyways?

I'll have to go see if that's a 5/8 by 8 Acme thread later. Every right tilt saw I've ever worked with was left hand thread but left tilt might be right handed thread. It all depends on which side of the arbor the motor is on. I've never worked with a left tilt. At least the rule about following rotation to loosen holds true either way.

I think it has something to do with , southern hemisphere and northern hemisphere . Like your toilet flush. I know that my table saw is towards me, my Skil saw is away, and my worm drive is towards me.
Must have some thing to do with the hemispheres
I am going to have to go and flush my toilet to tell which way that is.

In Texas it's going to spin clockwise David. For some strange reason my battery powered Milwaukee circ saw is meant for use in the southern hemisphere while my Skil and DW are both meant for the northern hemisphere.
