Last week I bought an old Wilhelm Putsch frame saw at a nearby auction (plus an Stanley 151 spoke shave in excellent condition). I went online to see what I could find out about it and found a set of instructions for sharpening the blades. It's the same as I've seen for every other handsaw except for the Japanese pull saw. Ever since I read Tage Frid's first book I've wanted to try one of these as he never used anything else and they are apparently the old master's saw of choice among European woodworkers. There are 4 types of blades for them, a crosscut, a rip, and a farmer's style general use type grind plus the fleam cut impulse hardened Japanese style blade. Highland Woodworking sells them. Here are the instructions to sharpen them:
