Chisel and gouge tip protectors

I'm pretty sure someone else already posted this but I don't think we had a shop hack's thread at the time so I'll post it again. The clear plastic tubing that is used in various parts of the food and beverage industries makes great tip protectors. It comes in a wide range of sizes so you can usually find one that fits and it's fairly inexpensive stuff. Normally a 2 to 4 inch piece is enough for one tool. The best fit is when you can find a piece of tube that has a slightly smaller diameter than the tool so that when you squeeze the tubing flat it becomes wide enough to go over the tip.
I bought a bunch of different sizes at a farm supply store in Alberta. What farmers would use it for is a mystery to me. A few sizes are usually sold at beer and wine supply stores but other than those I don't know what a common source for them would be. If anybody else knows please post where that would be.
