New Old Night Table...

Don't get excited...I didn't make one...

Who would have thought that I could find a matching night table for a twenty year old dresser...YAY Marketplace...and with exactly matching hardware...!

Now for the to-do...
1. Drawer Bottoms...they need to be replaced. Not going to be easy...dovetails are glued in, back goes past the bottom. In other words, the back was put on after the bottom was slid in. I'm guessing I'll either cut the back to the point I can slide the bottom out or heat up the joints and see if I can break the glue. Gonna try the heat first.

2. Some scratches and bare spots...some Old English might do it but it looks like Chestnut stain will take care of them. Try a little in a not so conspicuous spot and see what works. Guests will only see the front face anyway...teehee...

Pic to follow...gotta get it off my phone...

I asked a lady once if she would like a one night stand. She said she already had two next to the bed.

If all else fails you can cut a piece of 1/8" BB and drop it inside.

If the bottom is loose fit your plan should work fine, if glued....major problem to remove.

Agreed...fortunately most of the glue holding the bottom is hardened and cracked...it might be easy enough to come out all by its lonesome once I get the back off. Couple of taps with the 3lb'er might just do it...

I thought about just slipping a new bottom on the inside, like you suggested, but I think I should just replace it. Needs a good cleaning anyway...looks like previous owner dropped a cup of coffee in it... (who knows what used to be in there anyway)

More pics tomorrow...

Is that a hard glue? It doesn't look brittle.
Looks like masonite bottoms.
Try heat
May have to cut out middle with jigsaw, then try to wiggle pieces out, might be CA glue, but that much would be kind of spendy.
Water might soften the masonite if it is not tempered.

Maybe they forgot to bring one and the drawer was next best thing. If the drawer could talk it might have lots to say..........
Just saying,

Okie, Dokie then...it's back together. Nice clean bottom...

Drawer joints were half-blind dovetails. In order to get the bottom out I needed to spread the sides. To do that I used my Fein oscillating tool and freed up the glue (all the way around). I used the old drawer bottom to make a new one out of 1/4" ply and put it back together. I did not glue the bottom in nor glue the dovetails...used 18ga 3/4" brads instead. I used clamps to hold the sides, front and back together while I nailed it.

And Stick and Schnooge kept me company on the phone making typical remarks as you might imagine. They were kind enough to do a Cost Benefit Analysis for me.

At one time they actually did make them in a pull out and in a chair.

When you start a new thread you can add a "Topic Icon" to your post...
It's a Topic Icon...I must have hit it by mistake when I created the topic...or...

It also triggers when the number of posts exceeds the settings and it then becomes a "hot topic"...currently set at 25...
