I recently had a request for a small cheese board which could be easily filled. A quick trip to the cutoff bin revealed a number of sticks that looked like they might work. However, after casting them about on the bench several times no pattern came to the eye. So, as I do in all such cases, I took the pile in the house to present to SWMBO and humbly asked her to cast her "quilter's" on the same. Within 5 minutes the result shown below revealed itself. It started as one long slab that was crosscut and one end rotated. The spalded maple was added as a separator and so it was done.
The other board was made from oak salvaged from a kitchen remodel. The pieces were originally used to trim out the recessed fluorescent lights. The owner was going to use them as a garden stakes if I had no use for them. That was a quick decision. A couple of passes across the jointer, through the planer and the TS for sizing resulted in the second board. The trim is a piece from the cutoff bin of a neighbor. The board was returned to the owner. He was surprised to learn the source of that project but more than pleased to accept the board.

Excellent,Jon, those patterns are great and the glue up is great too. Using up used material is satisfying also.
