It's Not Routing, But...

... It's my "stuff" at the moment.
So imagine: Your kid sends you a picture of a "reindeer" out of landscape timbers with a text saying "mom, can you make this? They want like $65 for this, and I'm thinking: Hey! I bet my mom could make one of these!"
I ask for more pictures. I'm expecting pictures from different angles, etc. I get one more picture of another one they had in the store, not much different than the first. Well, I did my best. I didn't, however, finish and give it to her until Jan. 1 2021. I refused to put the year 2020 on any project.
My daughter gave me a wood burning device for Christmas. Actually, two. One with the wire attachments, and one that resembled the one I had as a kid, with brass attachments. (The brass attachment burner went back to Amazon. what a p.o.s.)
So, I've been playing with my Pyrography Machine, and bought a second one so Ken and I can sit and do patterns together. Ken and our grandson, Shawn did a pattern each last weekend. We will eventually.
Anyway, so here's a few pictures of what I've done. I also did a pallet snowman, but the picture of him will have to wait. The only one I have is the one just before he was done. I don't think I've done much of anything else.... no tellin. My brain is getting very foggy.

Blow me away, those are beautiful, sure beats my first tries with a wire machine. I even bought a book on it written by Joanne Tobey, and that helped but I need a lot more help. Woodburning,(except in the fireplace) and scrollsawing are one of the 2 thing , I can't get the knack of.
I think you have a winner there, Barb.

Aww, thanks, Herb ( and everyone). I still have a lot to learn to get the shading right. But using the wire wood burner made it easier to have the patience to learn it. I found that starting with patterns (like the bottom picture of the dear and wolf) that are just lines to make the picture, made it easier to learn, I think. The brass burner I got was a total joke. The biggest problem I'm finding is getting a steady heat. I got a book or two with the burner, too, just haven't really looked at them. (surprise surprise... my one "man-move" I do on a regular basis: not reading "how-to" books
)

It's not hard, Roxanne. I swear. A lot easier than it was when I was a kid and they only had those brass burners. I spent $48 I think on this one from Amazon after my coupon
Pyrography Machine This is the one I got for Ken to use, but I like it better than mine, if only because it came with more tips. I'm having fun with it. Now if I can just get more patterns to d/l. Just like my sign patterns, I use the wintergreen oil to put the patterns on the wood. The only problem I have, is I tend to forget to flip the picture before I print.

I saw that one, but I liked the different tips, and no special plugs to worry about (if that one has a plug-style bit?) I have a special attachment with the knife-style bit on the end, but haven't gotten that far into my learnin' yet.

Yeah yours came with a lot of extra stuff and attachments, and is higher wattage too, I had to buy the second hand piece and a bunch of tips. Also yours has several lettering templates etc.

Yeah, but I haven't used a single one. Easier to just create it on the computer, print and transfer. Better lines to follow
