first time using oak

We got two new divan beds without headboards. As we already had a double bed with an oak headboard, the mrs suggested (you WILL make this) I do 2 singles to match.
So I made two picket style headboards.
This is one

Because I had no idea how much wood I would use I bought a large plank, but only used half of it on the two headboards. So I decided to make a two drawer bedside cabinet to go with them with the left overs.
I got the base and drawer fronts out of the spare, but then had to go and buy another plank to make the top.

Heres the finished unit.

And heres the two headboards and the unit, all ready for when we can receive visitors again

The first things I have made that can actually be called "furniture" 8-)

Nice job Bob. What are you using for pulls?

When they say "this is just a suggestion" they actually mean "you better have a damn good reason for not doing it like I'm telling you".

That must have been one heck of a plank. Looks good. What kind of oak is it?

Boss lady is sourcing the handles, apparently I'm not experienced enough.
The first plank of white oak was big,
8" x2" x a shade under 10 ft.
That made the headboards and the base.
Then I had to get a 6" x 1" x 7ft board for the table top.

Those came out good,Bob. I love to work with oak, it just machines so good, You probably have a few scraps to glue together for a nice bandsaw box to match.
What a nice guest room, maybe have a bunch of visitors soon when the word gets out.

Herb, I was surprised how little waste I had left, only a couple of sticks (and a 12 gallon drum full of sawdust).
But I did buy the plank first, and then work out best sizes from that.

She's now said I can build a bigger three drawer chest to match (if I want  :D )
