A while ago I lost/misplaced an awl that my Father gave me...really miss it...
I found this at a garage sale...not my Father's awl but it will do as a reminder of his...
I'm going to leave the handle alone as it's got a fine patina...the steel will be polished...and, of course, it will get a collar...

Judging by the design it looks fairly old. Every awl I can remember since I was a kid had a plastic handle except for the higher end traditionalist type offerings. When you say collar I’m assuming you mean replacing the missing ferrule? LV sells a few different sizes but it will take years for one to develop a patina to match the awl. I’ve bought a fair number of chisels and gouges off eBay that needed handles and bought some for those but I’ve also used copper water tube for them too and it also works well.
