Chair Spindle

Good friend of mine needed some replacement spindles for chairs he was working on. Went and got some 1.25" Beech spindles and made half a dozen for him. I was happy to have a good spindle to go by. I like the way Beech turns and sands. Couldn't really tell what the original wood was. I have seen it before in furniture from across the pond but not sure of the species. I left the ends on to use as a handle when finishing.

That is so cool, Dan, when someone wants something, you can just whip it out for them.

My sister in law ask me if I could repair a couple of her kitchen chairs. I picked them up and took them home. One had a leg broken off and the other had missing rungs.
The rungs were flat rectangular pieces of wood, with the edges rounded off and had round ends to fit into round holes in the legs.
I don't have a lath so I carved the ends and rounded them on the sander.
It took several attempt with a stain to get the right color to match the old wood.
She was happy with it and since I did not charge family (which I am sure she was counting on) she was double happy.
