My God! Has anyone seen the prices of PVC?

I installed a dust collection system with 6" PVC that branch off to 4". I went to get a section of 4" PVC yesterday and goodness, it has gone from about $18 and now it is $88 for a 10-foot length. Needless to say, I didn't pick it up. I needed schedule 40 and only had DWV pipe in the shop. I needed schedule 40 to make everything fit.
I know that wood prices have gone through the roof, now PVC. It's being blamed on Covid and a fire in a PVC plant. I work in Louisiana and there are several PVC plants running full speed. I just betcha that there is some collusion between all these manufacturers to jack the prices up.
I talked to one of my timber farmers and he told me that all this price increase is coming on the manufacturing side. The stumpage hasn't seen any appreciable increase to the landowners for their timber.
Using all this logic, toilet paper will soon be $100 a roll!

I too have several projects that i have planned but due to the price of everything, they will wait or be discarded all together.
I buy a lot of hard woods off of EBAY for making cutting boards. I have not seen an appreciable price increase on the bundles of scrap that I buy.
I believe that this whole thing about price increases is a coelution between all the material sales stores. They seen a chance to make a killing and took it.
Normally during a crisis, the government would step in to hold down the cost of everything.
I don't think we can expect any help from this administration. As a matter of fact, they just may be the ones that are instigating and pushing these price hikes.
The French have a solution to this. If the government raises the price of a liter of gas, they French boycott the gas stations. Word goes out and everyone gets their gas that day. The next morning The farmers park farm equipment across the entrances to all gas stations. the whole country at one time. No one buys gas.
The next day the prices are back where they were.
The same thing with tolls on the freeways. Raise the price of tolls, and every traffic circle in the country leading onto a toll road is blocked with tractors and wagons of hay.
While trying to get to Paris one morning, I had to take side roads all the way. Took 8 hours instead of 3. But the next day, the prices were back down and the farm equipment was gone.
The French don't just sit at home and bitch about the prices going up, they act.

I heard it is a resin shortage
https://www.creationtech.com/resin-shor ... ect-storm/ I guess PVC wasn't an essential business. Probably just corporate greed and a good way to drive up prices like everything else.

I heard part of the reason for plywood prices was an increase in resin prices too but I used to work in the oil patch and the price is $75 roughly now and it has been up to $140 so take that info for what's it's worth.

Commercial (Wholesale) pipe company. They told me just to wait until things settle down as the market is crazy. The reason I shop there is that they sell solid core PVC versus the foam core. It is much more durable and I use scraps to build things like vacuum bag manifolds for veneer etc.
It's a result of the the government and Faucci telling EVERYONE to stay home. I personally think that 90% of this virus stuff is blown out of proportion to control all us versus protect us, just my opinion.

I'm using it for a vacuum system to pull a vacuum in the reservoir before deflating vacuum bags to attach veneer to odd shaped pieces. All that I have heard is that the foam core, IE: Lowes and Home Depot type, will collapse eventually under the vacuum. This will be a new experience for me!
I did find a cut off piece of solid core PVC, 4" for a few bucks at a hardware store. I was just shocked at what the plumbing supply guy told me about the cost escalating. I put a 6-inch system in the shop for dust collection and the guy told me that those were going well over $200 for 10foot sections.
