Haven't been in the shop much lately so thought I should at least spend some time and tidy up the cut off piles. Well, as usual one thing led to another and a small chopping board for a friend who just had her kitchen remodeled and a savings bank for a new grandson of an old friend suddenly appeared. Must go now, the shop is calling.
As always, comments appreciated.

Great job, Jon. Where did you get the little Vault Door? I like the design of the cutting board, very unique.

Thank you gentlemen.
The center for that block was left over from an old post about "if you can't make a bowl make a box". So it has been hanging about a big.
The vault door was ordered from Rockler. There are others available on the web but this one seemed to offer the best quality. In fact, when the original arrived the glass plate in the door was broken and Rockler replaced the entire door. If you need a door Herb let me know and it's yours.

Beautiful work Jon. That weave must have taken some time. Did you dye the wood in the cutting board black or is that natural?

Did you weave the basket too? You ought make another one with the door. That is so cool, with the basket inside.

No, I did not dye the black wood. That is the way the walnut took on the mineral oil. Surprised me as well, particularly given the difference between the end no edge grains.
