Chess Board

#1

Post by DaninVan »

I'm a bit confused (more than normal)...
I'm making a board, box, and chess set for this year's 2x4 challenge. My confusion is concerning the board layout; it was my impression that the bottom left corner, when facing the board, is a white square. I thought I'd confirm that by looking at online pictures of boards in play. They seem to run about 50/50 white or black for that bottom corner.

Is there a correct, or preferred orientation?

Many thanks, Stick! You saved me from making a big mistake. Although, if you rotate the board 90 deg. you'll get the correct layout...only a problem if you label the ranks and files.

In the world of "for what it is worth", the setup is the same for checkers only then it is referred to as a "checker board".
