Okay, here it comes!
Hey guys, i just got the notification from Avid last night that my new CNC machine has shipped! It should arrive next Friday, so after many man hours of assembly, I'll be in the "learning phase" for actual cutting.
Thanks to all of you in helping me get this far. I am looking forward to the assembly process and actual cutting my first project.
I've been playing with the software and trying to get up to speed, but nothing is like having the real thing to test things out. I hope you guys don't mind me bothering you asking questions as there are certainly many forthcoming!

Yay!!!!! Gonna be a long week. Kind of like a kid waiting on Xmas or his birthday present to come once it's been ordered.

John: You are absolutely right. Hopefully getting off of work around noon, meeting the UPS man with a cart to collect the goodies and then rushing to get a couple of "mama's" honey do projects done so I have an excuse over the weekend to put the machine together!honesttjohn wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 11:10 pmGetting on that "honey do" list for Mama!! lolMikeSibley wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2020 10:48 pm Okay folks, the Avid CNC Pro 4848 will be delivered tomorrow. Re: Okay, here it comes!
Here's the update! UPS delivered 14 boxes late yesterday afternoon. With the help of my neighbor, we assembled the leg and table kit last night. Today's project update is that we are assembling the rack and pinion system for the y-axis travel today and if all goes well, we will begin the gantry support portion. Methodically following the directions and all facets of the project are going well.
By the way, the boxes from Avid are very well packed, protected, and in great shape. Parts are going together easily.
When installing the rack and pinion rails and slide, I am assuming that I need to paint all parts with the Teflon lubricant, correct? I will clean first with the brake cleaner.

Re: Okay, here it comes!
Everything should fit and go together with minimum effort. Trouble is, once you start putting things together and it's going well, you don't want to stop. Like working on a jigsaw puzzle. Congrats.

Re: Okay, here it comes!
Update from the shop! The entire machine is together with the exception of the cables, electronics, and spindle. The whole thing is good from legs to table, to gantry, to cable holders. Just took a break, so now I'll have to run the cables to the motors, install the spindle then set up the software etc.
Thank God for my next door neighbor as he is helping me and between the two, it's seamless. Had one hiccup, one of the drive plates did not have any screws in it so it was not going to work. They were M5 x 25 mm flat head, so I ran to the hardware store, and Yea! they had them!
Further report coming tomorrow!!

Re: Okay, here it comes!
My own fault! I was just like a kid on Christmas morning! I wasn't paying attention and stopped the machine when it wasn't doing what I expected it to do, then forgot to raise the spindle before moving it and bang, there went the first bit! Time to slow down and be a little more deliberate and careful!
Thanks guys, I appreciate the help and advice!!
