A while back, another Vietnam Vet I met said " Glad you made it home". That touched me.
I have been saying that to my fellow Vietnam war Vets ever since. Like me, they all seem to brighten up just a little when I do.
So, to all the Military Vets of all services out there, "Thank you for your service" and for my brother Vietnam Vets, "Glad you made it home".
While travelling around Europe, we visited several cemeteries for American soldiers.
It was eye opening to see just how many we still have buried over there, and how the locals accepted them and take care of the grave sites. Every cemetery is beautifully kept.
We even found in the middle is a planted field, a small cemetery, with a beautifully carved stone entry. In this cemetery rested about 80 German soldiers. This was located in the middle of a French farmers field. Many of them were listed as unknown.
The cemetery was maintained by the people of the local French village.
In a small hole in the wall was a ledger of visitors. I found it remarkable that Germans were able to find and visit their family members who had been the aggressors in this war against the French.
We signed the book too.
I wasn't sure if this was the right thread to post this on or if it should be on the Lighter Side of the Military thread. It is some of both. A true story about about a traitor that has a funny ending:
NEVER FORGET WHAT SHE DID...
It happened in a Montana Restaurant
The radio station America FM was doing one of its 'Is Anyone Listening?' bits this morning.
The first question was; "Ever have a celebrity come up with the 'Do you know who
I am?' routine?"
A woman called in and said that a few years ago, while visiting her cattle rancher uncle in Billings, MT,
She had occasion to go to dinner at a restaurant that does not take reservations. The wait was about 45 minutes;
Many local ranchers and their wives were waiting.
Ted Turner and his ex-wife Jane Fonda came into the restaurant and wanted a table.
The hostess informed them that they'd have to wait 45 minutes.
Jane Fonda asked the hostess, 'Do you know who I am?'
The hostess answered, 'Yes, but you'll have to wait 45 minutes.'
Then Jane asked if the manager was in. When the manager came out, he asked,
'May I help you?'
'Do you know who we are?' both Ted and Jane asked.
Yes, but these folks have been waiting, and I can't put you ahead of them.'
Then Ted asked to speak to the owner. The owner came out, and Jane again asked,
'Do you know who I am?'
The owner answered, 'Yes, I do.
Do you know who I am?
I am the owner of this restaurant and I am a Vietnam Veteran.
Not only will you not get a table ahead of my friends and neighbors who have been waiting here,
but you also will not be eating in my restaurant tonight or any other night.
Goodbye!'
Only in America, is this a great country or what? (well, it was then---)
To all who received this, this is a true story and the name of the steak house is:
Sir Scott's Oasis Steakhouse
204 W. Main ,
Manhattan , MT 59741
(406) 284-6929
If you ever get there, give this fellow a sharp salute, buy a steak, and tip the waitress.
They have ten steaks on their simple menu from 32 oz. to 12 oz.
Toothpicks on every table!
Keep passing this on. We should never forget our "national traitor"!
Jane Fonda went to North Viet Nam in 1966, betrayed our U.S. Military Prisoners in captivity, had photos with Communist Troops taken sitting on their anti-aircraft guns. The U.S. Prisoners were tortured, beaten and some died.
