Finally got around to turning the wood handles for the awls. Used Black Walnut, love that stuff. I was going to nickel plate the parts but just polished them instead. I have a small collection of awls and like the patina age brings. Being a bolt through design I didn't see a need for a ferrule. The acorn nuts and washers are stainless steel. Have a look.
When I made the hardware I made the heads all the same size but should have made them fit a forstner bit size. Well I rather than cutting them again I got out the boring head I was inspired to buy from Craft Supplies. Here is a demo video.
Got it dialed in and they fit great.

A bunch more money can be spent on one but this one is fine for wood working. Haven't tried it on metal yet but someday. I did sharpen the cutter with a diamond file to get a crisper cut.
