Welcome David good to see you here, I am glad joined our group. I don't know if anyone walked you through setting up your membership or not ,but I wrote above how to get started on the Avatar and checking in. If you have any questions just holler. To navigate the site, you will see in the light blue bar at the top a little house on the left hand side just before "Workers of Wood", click on that and it will always return you to the start page again. There is the same at the bottom of the page too that will bring you back to the beginning.
On the lefthand side of the same bar is a little triangle ,click on that to see a drop down window with all the things for setup avatar and profile.

Herb...nice job you're doing welcoming new members...!!!

You can also let new members know that they can add their first name as they edit their profile with the User Control Panel in the box called "TITLE"...

To do that, click on the User Name (upper right corner of screen), click on "User Control Panel", then click on the "Profile" tab, then scroll down until you see "Title", enter first name in the box... It will then show up in the avatar window under "Location"...

I'm *thinking* of allowing this particular thread to "auto prune" since it is going to get larger and larger... Any thoughts?

For now, I would leave it. The more there's here, the more new members might be enticed to make an Intro post. Plus anything they might put in the Intro would make for more complete searches...just a thought...

Is there a limit to how many comments appear ona page before it starts a new one? 25 is probably too few and 50 may be too many(?).
Is that what you meant by auto-pruning?

Pruning is the automatic deletion of posts based on (example) date/age/volume/#days without views/no replies, etc...there's a bunch of different criteria.

@Herb Stoops Herb's definition is close...

Right now the posts per page for the Forum is set high (100)...it can be set to any reasonable number...would need to look into being able to set it at a User level.
