I've seen that idea before although never tried it. I found these Caulk Tube Condoms a couple of years ago and really like them. With care, they last a long time, have even used one on more than one tube of caulk, and do a great job of keeping the caulk from drying up and setting in the nozzle.

I bought these plugs that fit inside the nozzle: https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/to ... em=25K8095 They cost $1 each but are reusable although sometimes you have scrape the dried caulk or adhesive off them to do that. You also need to wait for the excess pressure in the tube to finish pushing caulk out although they will hold back a little pressure. I'll have to give the wire nut a try Mike and see how that works.
