House Layout...need your input...

#1

Post by Nickp »

My daughters are aware that I've been trying to create storage areas, furnish a couple of rooms and laying out the shop...

So they sent me a suggested layout of the house...Do you think the bathroom is too big...?

You make the bathroom smaller and you won't be needing the bedroom... ;)

Are your feet in the tub when you sit on the toilet?

Good point...if I make it a walk-in tub, I won't need the floor between the bowl and the tub...

Excellent suggestion...! I'm assuming that's where you were going...

Put in an RV toilet in the shower along with the sink, so you can sit on the toilet and brush your teeth while sitting on the toilet. I seen one in my brothers airstream.

I see that you had the right priorities when you laid out the shop.
Not sure if you need that huge kitchen.

Looks to me like you're skimping on the shop a little. Look at combining the Kitchen and Bathroom - for the kitchen you only need a short counter to hold the coffee pot, the microwave and an area where you sit to eat. Don't need the sink, put the dirty dishes in the bathtub and wash them when you take a shower. Shop size is irrelevant, shortly after you move in, the tools start to expand, take over all the spare space and you're back to wondering if you should move to where you have a larger shop - or maybe some way to add a bump-out.

The bump out comes after you take about half the tools that originally had their own spot and mount them on castors so that you can push them out of the way when you aren't using them plus the shed you build to store all the spare wood and scraps and any of the stuff you had in the shop that was in there to keep it out of the weather. VOE.

Use sliding doors between each room and only 1 entry via the bathroom. Provides more wall space to hang clamps, shelf lumber etc. Plus it cuts down on the amount of saw dust you can track in.
