Dust Collection Design II

Since the Dust Collection Design Topic is locked, for some reason, I will start a new one.
Today I received an email from Jessem of a new router table that includes improved dust collection.
Now first I will state that I consider Jessem top of the line equipment, I have and older table set up with the Jessem sliding cross fence,and was lucky to get it 2nd hand for a very reasonable price. But I designed,with Sticks help a way to mount the router in a box below the top with the router intake below a cutout in the box bottom.
Now Jessem is offering a table with a box enclosure and it includes an intake/exhaust ports and hoses to attach to the base of the router. I am not sure if a separate vacuum is attached to the outlet,or if they rely on the fan in the router motor to exhaust the sawdust. In any case,I think it is over engineered.

It looks like the air goes in at the bottom and then goes up the router housing and is deflected by a shroud between the housing and bit. I think I'd rather see it without the shroud and just blow up through the hole in the table and collect the chips with a fence mounted collector. I'm still not a fan of boxes and never will be. But if you are sold on box dust collection then this is probably the best design so far.

An idea I have but haven't gotten to on my to do list is to build an under table collection device to go with my fence mounted one. The under table one would be a half moon shaped device with about an inch wide opening in it. It would fit against the base of my router and go half way around. This would collect whatever my fence mounted DC misses. That isn't a lot but it isn't zero. The vacuum between the bit and motor would also help draw more air through my router causing it to run cooler. The under table and fence mounted collectors would Y together into one hose.

something to keep in mind abut the dust and volatile fumes in yur shop and static electricity...
yeah I know... It will never happen to you nay sayers and or those that don't.can't/won't think things through...

That's why I used galvanized ducting for the main runs on my DC. I also ran a copper wire from them to the ground connection in my electrical box.That might be overkill but I'm a long ways from fire protection.

I'll be using spiral pipe -- I found a local supplier that can get me everything I need (relatively) cheaply. 8" main lines, homemade saddles (a la Stick's tutelage) and wye's. I'll run a copper ground to a grounding point on my power box.

I just can't force myself to reduce everything down and use 4" PVC for my setup -- I may as well go with a horrible freight DC setup if I want to do that.

I use 6" pvc on the main runs and reduce it to 4" to the machines except for the 2 table saws get 6" hooked to the saws. Don't have a ground wire, all my machines are grounded. I made all the saddles for the pipe out of 3/4" BB plywood with a plastic strap over the top to hold the pipe tight. If you use metal pipe do you need a ground? Maybe a short one at the fan?

Depends on what the pipe is touching. Mine is sitting on concrete which probably would have been enough but why take a chance. It was easy enough to ground to my electrical box. Cheap peace of mind.
