Another cutting board

Well, after hitting those unwanted chunks of metal in the initial planing of the walnut ( see not a fun find), I thought I would show the final result. The recipient was pleased so all's well that ends well.

Thank you one and all. I can't claim the overall design though, it was based on one from David Picciuto's book, Make your own cutting board.
The key to the center section was two different slabs of maple, Pacific Maple and classic Hard Maple.

The two different maples glued up in wide pieces, then turned and lined up.
The walnut was glued up separate, then ??
Did you glue this up before adding the Walnut or do it all together?

This was a multi step process and hopefully the following will clarify it.
The maple pieces were ripped into strips and glued together to form one long wide slab. That slab was cross cut on the TS and those strips turned with the end grain up and glued back together to form the center slab.
The walnut sides and ends were glued into strips from individual blocks. The 2 ends were glued onto the maple slab in one step and that unit was passed through the TS to even the long sides of that slab. The long side pieces were then glued onto that slab, again in one step, and the TS process repeated. The ends and sides were added in 2 steps as those blocks were offset relative to
the maple blocks and thus were longer than either the width or length of the maple slab. The TS process was used to clean up the glue squeeze out.

A bit long winded but hopefully clear.

Hi, Jon et al.

From last November I've been doing this kind of project, of course with very limited capabilities.
I made several basic cutting boards and 3D boards. To my surprise, I sold a pair of 3D boards and had two requests for central panel door decoration boards. Most of my cutting boards were Christmas gifts for my wife's family.

Great boards. I have yet to take on another 3d board after the piano keyboard I did way back. Really need to look into one. Did you use an bailable pattern or design your own?
