Hi Guys, im new to the site. Want to say hi. I am a self employed handyman/remodeler, hobby woodworker. I also enjoy restoring older machines.. Just sold a 40's/50's delta unisaw that I restored with a 1 5 HP bullet motor. New arbor berings, motor berings, stripped and repainted. Stopped by the guys Shop who bought it, and he was getting rid of a shopfox w1677. I asked about it, he said do u want it? Of course, I said yes. At $0, who could say no? Said motor was bad. Brought it home last night, still in my van. Did some quick research and come to find out these are basically Grizzlys under Shopfox brand? Will tear down and pull motor today sometime. Anyone have any experience with this particular machine? I have a 3hp grizzly motor laying around somewhere in storage. Just moved, so like my life, everything else is in shambles! Lol.

Welcome to the forum, Phil, and those old tools were really well built. Grizzly has sold ShopFox seems like forever. you shouldn't have too much problem restoring it.
We have a section on manuals, if you happen to get a manual for it, post it there for future reference. Good luck on your restoration, show pictures of your progress.

Hi Phil, welcome to the forum.

My oldest machine is a delta jointer that I found next to the dumpster at the storage unit where the hubby's boss has a unit. Plugged it in, and the thing whirred right up. Had my guys at work build me a fence, and it's been in my shop ever since. (Well, it just got moved to the storage shed, because I needed the floor space. Working on finding it a new home where it will be appreciated. This old thing is amazing-all metal. Not like the plastic machines these days.)

Hi Phil and welcome. Thee aren't that many machine makers anymore for hobbyist class machines. Most are either built in the same factories or with the same outsourced parts. There may be small differences but essentially the same machine. I was looking for blades for my Makita 3" power plane and found out that there were 23 different planes that used those blades. The Hitachi even used the same model number as my Makita, 1900B. It was green instead of blue. I bought a King Canada planer quite a few years ago and started noticing how many other machines used the same parts, including the 2 speed gearbox. Machines like Delta, Star, Craftex, Busy Bee, and I think Grizzly and Shop Fox. FWW did a review on lunchbox planers a couple of years ago and the DW 735 was unique, the DW734 and a Rigid were identical, and the rest were the same machine. While looking for a 12mm collet for my Hitachi M12V2 router I found it it has the same collet as about 30 other machines including the Bosch 1617 and 23 models, and around 20 DW models.
