My shop
While I prefer to spend the time working with hand tools, power tools and machines are an important part of the work process. Machines for roughing out, and hand tools for joinery and details.
I’ve been a serious amateur furniture and tool maker for about 30-odd years. Before that it was more along the lines of carpentry - restoring homes. The past decade I have been upgrading the machines, with an eye on retirement. Probably another 5 years away, although I am 70 now. Machines are mainly Hammer (Felder) and Nova. Hand tools ... well I have more than anyone needs for a few lifetimes. I’ve been fortunate to be involved with the testing of Veritas tools, and so have many. I have wonderful Chris Vesper marking tools. I have designed some of the knives he builds. I have built all sorts of tools for my shop, from plough planes, many bench planes, router planes, saws ...
The bench is the heart of my shop. I built this from European Oak for the top, and Jarrah (rafters) for the base ...
These were taken quite a while ago, so are a little dated ...
That is a more recent photo. The Nova lathe replaced the small Jet in this corner ..
The Nova Voyager drill press is a recent purchase. The others are by Hammer ..
All this in half a double garage.
Regards from Perth

A great looking shop there Derek. You have done some beautiful work on tool presentation and storage.

Re: My shop
Thanks for the kind words. i rarely post pictures of my shop - I would rather post pictures of furniture, or something explaining or demonstrating abut joinery or hand tool work. But the forum is new .... Where is the interest in hand tools?
