Thien separator

Last year, I updated my pre-separators to this design.

I have a Rockler Vortex that the lid was cracking on. So I salvaged the ports and made a separator from some leftover particle board and fit them inside the top of the tub. This connects to my Ridgid shop vacuum and hooks up to sanders, routers, benchtop sanders, router table, band saw, plate joiner, and general shop floor pick up.

I have a 30 gal garbage can that connects to a Jet single stage dust collector. I made a similar one for it, but it sits on top. Again, some scrap particle board, a bit of leftover Lexan, and ports made from 1 lb coffee cans. It connects to my table saw and planer.

Both do a great job separating out the chips. It was much more straightforward than trying to design and build a tapered cylinder cyclone separator
